The skills gap has been growing for decades because younger generations have not been encouraged to pursue a career in the trades. Shawn will explain why hiring for skill is like hunting for unicorns. Successful construction companies in the next decade will be the ones who can attract and develop their own skilled labor force. Construction companies must shift from “looking for skill” to “recruiting for talent” to remain relevant in the coming decade. Millennials make up the largest portion of the workforce today, and construction companies that succeed in the future will need to develop recruiting, hiring and training practices that show these millennials a path and create opportunities for them along the way.

Judy Hoberman is president of Walking on the Glass Floor and Selling in a Skirt. Her 30 years in business has given her insights about how men and women sell, work and live differently. Judy’s knowledge and sense of humor will enlighten you on how both genders can support each other’s successes in a more productive way. In 2016 she was a TED speaker talking about pre-judging people, something we all do without even thinking. She is the author of Selling In a Skirt, Famous Isn’t Enough and Pure Wealth. Her latest book, Walking on the Glass Floor, already a bestseller, is about the soft skills of leadership. Judy recently completed a program from Cornell University’s College of Business on Women in Leadership.
